Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) in the US is one of the largest multidisciplinary research centers in the world. This laboratory, located in the middle of Long Island, New York, operates several unique world-class research facilities in which the international scientific community is looking for answers to important questions in basic and applied research - from the study of the early universe to the development of advanced energy technologies in the context of ecologically sustainable development.

The BNL conducts research in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, applied sciences and advanced technologies. The laboratory employs more than 3,000 scientists and engineers every year and also welcomes more than 4,000 scientists from around the world.

Since its foundation in 1947 a total of seven Nobel prizes for research in the BNL has been granted. This fact makes the BNL one of the most successful research laboratories in the history and especially in the peaceful research of atomic nucleus and particle physics.

Since 2016 collaboration with BNL is part of the Roadmap of Czech Republic's large infrastructures for research, experimental development and innovation for the years 2016-2022 as the infrastructure Brookhaven National Laboratory - the participation of the Czech Republic and supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (project LM2015054). The Czech Republic in BNL is currently represented primarily through research on ultra-relativistic nuclei collisions, which is done at the RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) complex of accelerators. In the past Czech teams have significantly contributed and continues to contribute in the research of nuclear materials, the spin structure of the proton and also participate in the development of new advanced detector technology.

Within the program Operational Programme Research, Development and Education, we launched project no. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_013/0001569 for physical usage with 3 research programs: STAR, PHENIX/sPHENIX and Phenomenology of the cold nuclear matter. The project started 1.6.2017 and is for 3 years.

is an association of institutions that collaborate with Brookhaven National Laboratory.

In the Committee are representatives of the main Czech institutions involved in the BNL cooperation:

together with representatives

The Committee is established for the purpose of performing the following tasks:

  1. Coordination of cooperation in projects realized under the scientific cooperation between the Czech Republic and BNL.

  2. Efficient representation of the needs of Czech scientific community towards BNL.

  3. Facilitate the entry of other Czech scientific institutions.

  4. Promoting technology transfer and participation of Czech companies in projects in BNL.

  5. Popularization of the science and results related to research.

  6. Support for participation of students in educational projects organized in BNL.
